Target audience descriptions
Target Audience
My chosen genre of music is folk/acoustic/contemporary acoustic.
Artists/bands that I have been inspired by are: Ed Sheeran, Mumford and Sons, Newton Faulkner, Jason Mraz and Ben Howard.
My target audience will be both males and females (as both are big listeners of this genre) aged between 16-24, although the most common ages listening being 18-24 as this age appears to be more interested in acoustic/folk music as they have matured more in their music taste.
The social demographic group will in between C2 and C1. This is because they are the most likely demographic to relate and identify with my artist. They would probably relate to a representation of someone who is a 'free spirit' and goes against lots of social norms with their clothing and how the present themselves to the public. I also think that this demographic are most likely to find an audience appeal from the rural settings and an artist who seems very easy going. They will find it easy to feel they have bonded with the artist and will identify with the outgoing personality of the artist.
Occupation - the most likely occupation of these listeners is to be students, semi skilled workers, or maybe some artists or musicians or other creative careers. Due to the younger age of the audience, there may be some who are also unemployed. I think these occupations are most likely to fit in with the meaning of my song and this genre. This is because they may identify with lots of the themes I have found in my song. e.g. wanting a change in life, or feeling stuck in the life they're currently in due to society.
This is something this demographic group and people with these occupations are likely to relate to as they may feel trapped or like they have big ideas that haven't been discovered yet.
Hobbies - The hobbies of my target audience are likely to be creative. Using skills such as art, making their own music or even enjoying writing. I also think due to the free spirit nature they are also going to enjoy spending time outdoors. They will find gratification from the performance images and outside settings in music videos as they will be mirroring ways they like to spend their time.
Gratifications/Solutions - The uses this music video will offer to my target audience is someone who they can relate to and who understands the problems and pressure they may feel from society. The artist will also be someone who comes from the same demographic background as them, this means the audience will feel a bond with him, and they will enjoy listening to something that seems to understand their problems they may feel from being within a certain demographic group or being viewed as a 'lower class'. This will also come across as a solution to them as they may find motivation in the lyrics and the artist will show them that their ideas they have can succeed and that even if they feel stuck, they can find a way to move on. Relating with this artist and themes will give the audience validation and will give them pleasure from listening to it.
