Song choice shortlist
Initial Ideas
The genre of music I was most interesting in making my video on was acoustic/folk/indie pop.
I was inspired by this when looking a digipaks and music videos of this genre as I liked the conventions used in many of these.
Ed Sheeran Digipak |
James Bay digipak |
Mumford and Sons - digipak |
One of the main conventions I like about this genre's digipaks is the lighting and filters used over the photos. They all are quite low lit and many involved everyday objects, e.g. chairs and benches. I would like to reconstruct images like this for my digipak as I think there are lots of interesting places and scenery around where I live. As another common convention of folk and acoustic music is the location of outside scenery and rural locations, this is also very well suited to the area I live in and I feel I will be able to find lots of inspiration around me to create a video and digipak that fits in with the conventions of this genre.
Possible songs I will use:
Mumford and Sons - The cave
The main thing I like about this video is the strong use of mise en scene through the use of costumes and bold props, such as motor bikes. I think that costume changes are something I would like to include in my video, as I think it keeps the video unique and interesting. Costume can also be used to amplify or contradict lyrics, which is an idea I would like to use.
Joel Adams - Please don''t go
One of the main conventions I find interesting in this video is the combination of the outdoors setting (typical of acoustic music) and the use of CGI (typical in pop videos). I also think the direct address when lip syncing to the camera is an important element to use when performing in a video as it appeals to the viewer as they feel more connected and involved with the video.
Newton Faulkner - Write it on your skin
I also think this video uses an interesting twist with CGI and graphics. This is because CGI is usually a more common convention in pop and electronic videos. However this video has involved it, but in a way that suits the calmness of the song. The hand drawings relate to folk/acoustic imagery but have been used as a background on a green screen.
