Final Song choice

Image
Newton Faulkner - write it on your skin  I have chosen to use this song as my final song. This is because the lyrics of this song inspires me the most as I feel they give me a chance to use elements of what I have been inspired by and spoken about above, throughout the video. In this video I plan to make a hybrid of both narrative and performance, which gives me the chance of using costume, direct address and various outdoors locations to represent common conventions of acoustic and folk music videos. I also feel that the lyrics in this song are quite literal and therefore can be amplified or contradicted. Another thing I like about this song is how it fits in with the folk/acoustic conventions, of being very calm and mellow. However at some points it is quite upbeat in the chorus. This has inspired me as in filming it will be interesting to watch a video with different shots at different paces to match the song and keep filming speed varied. Genre: Acoustic, Folk,

Song choice shortlist

Initial Ideas The genre of music I was most interesting in making my video on was acoustic/folk/indie pop.  I was inspired by this when looking a digipaks and music videos of this genre as I liked the conventions used in many of these.  Ed Sheeran Digipak  James Bay digipak  Mumford and Sons - digipak  One of the main conventions I like about this genre's digipaks is the lighting and filters used over the photos. They all are quite low lit and many involved everyday objects, e.g. chairs and benches. I would like to reconstruct images like this for my digipak as I think there are lots of interesting places and scenery around where I live. As another common convention of folk and acoustic music is the location of outside scenery and rural locations, this is also very well suited to the area I live in and I feel I will be able to find lots of inspiration around me to create a video and digipak that fits in with the conventions of this genre.  Possible son

Target audience descriptions

Image
Target Audience My chosen genre of music is folk/acoustic/contemporary acoustic. Artists/bands that I have been inspired by are: Ed Sheeran, Mumford and Sons, Newton Faulkner, Jason Mraz and Ben Howard.   My target audience will be both males and females (as both are big listeners of this genre) aged between 16-24, although the most common ages listening being 18-24 as this age appears to be more interested in acoustic/folk music as they have matured more in their music taste. The social demographic group will in between C2 and C1. This is because they are the most likely demographic to relate and identify with my artist. They would probably relate to a representation of someone who is a 'free spirit' and goes against lots of social norms with their clothing and how the present themselves to the public. I also think that this demographic are most likely to find an audience appeal from the rural settings and an artist who seems very easy going. They will find it e

Audience research

Primary and Secondary audience research  The genre of music I am most inspired to make a music video around is acoustic/folk. The first research I decided to do was to find out which age group would be the best to target this genre of video to. This is a survey I created and asked ages of people 16-18 of what music video they watched the most. No one in this age group voted for acoustic music videos. Therefore I think I need to target my video to an older demographic. Based on Spotify's data, the biggest listeners of this genre are aged 18-24. These videos are also very different than to common conventions of pop videos, which include lots of dance/provocative scenes, which are targeted to a younger audience. For an older demographic, there needs to be more emphasis on performance and the lyrics as they seem to be more interested in the music, as this is the age who tend to view videos representing this. When asking the same age group of what type of music v

Digipaks & Magazine adverts analysis

Digipaks & Magazine adverts analysis You me at six - digipak and magazine advert This magazine advert includes lots of promotional information. However it has been designed in a way to make the powerful image clearly visible and for the advert to not appear cluttered or over whelming. This appeals to the audience as the image is very eye catching and then the next thing that you see is the text. The clear layout of the text makes the reader more likely to be engaged and read it all as it is enough to spark interest but doesn't over crowd the page.   CD digipak front cover  Back and Inside The disk  Adele - 21 - digipak and magazine Album front cover Magazine advert Album back Disk There is synergy between the magazine advert and album covers, with the music video of someone like you. This is one of the biggest singles that was released before this album. There is similar shots of close ups of Adele showing her
